Welcome to "Too Young 2 Love."
This wiki was created as a repository for aural, visual, and textual information compiled and created for the examination of select songs from throughout the 20th Century that contribute to the discourse on adolescence, specifically adolescent love, romance and sexuality. To the right you will find the navigation menu with a page of relevant terms, a page for all the works cited, as well as a page for each individual song, including full audio files, analysis, and any other related images or videos.
This project draws heavily on the work of Nancy Lesko and her book
Act Your Age! A Cultural Construction of Adolescence
. Because of the prevalence of her theory, there is not an overabundance of direct quotes from her work but instead a general acknowledgement of my debt. Page numbers are provided where crucial and the relevant terms page contains some of the most prominent elements of her theory that this project leans on, especially as related to "time."
Some Advice:
As you navigate around this page you may notice that the audio files must be played on their own page, therefore it is strongly advised that you
open the files in a new window
rather than merely clicking the links. This way you can listen to the audio file while still having access to the analysis, lyrics, images, etc.
It is strongly advised that you peruse the
Relevant Terms and Definitions
page before checking out the songs. Because of the theoretical nature of the analyses, it is important to be familiar with the terminology utilized as well as specific definitions for such broad terms as "love."
