2. Synopsis

10 years ago, a believer in future predictions and the leader of the "Tin Ha" Clan, Lord Conquer ( Sony Chiba ) was given a prophecy by the Mud Buddha ( Lai Yiu-Cheung ).

金鱗豈是池中物,一遇風雲便化龍
" When Wind and Cloud combine the fish with the golden scales becomes a dragon "

The meaning of this prophecy is if Conquer was able to find "Wind" and "Cloud", he will conquer the world. Mud Buddha also gave him a box which contains the second half of the prophecy but must not be opened until 10 years later. Conquer searched the lands vast and wide for every boy that matches the prophecy and "Wind" and "Cloud" were eventually found.

True enough, for the next 10 years, with the help of the now grown up Wind ( Ekin Cheng ) and Cloud ( Aaron Kwok ), Conquer became the most powerful figure in the Wuxia world. Until one respective day, he learnt the second half of the prophecy.

九霄龍吟驚天變,風雲際會淺水遊
" The Dragon is powerful but will be stranded when Wind and Cloud becomes a storm "

The meaning of the prophecy is if Wind and Cloud combine their powers, Conquer will be destroyed. Conquer was deeply troubled by this prophecy and sets to kill both Wind and Cloud once and for all. He uses his daughter Charity ( Kristy Yeung ) to turn Wind and Cloud against each other. During the battle between Wind and Cloud on Wind’s wedding day, Charity was killed mistakenly by his own father. Cloud was banished and hunted down for crashing the wedding but escaped with the lost of an arm. Fortunately, he was rescued by Muse ( Shu Qi ) whose father gave his own arm to save Cloud's life.

Meanwhile, Wind realizes Conquer’s evil deeds and leaves the Tin Ha Clan. He discovers a cave occupied by a "fire dragon lion". Wind won the battle between him and the beast and in the process he also repossesses his ancestors’ deadly weapon "Snow Blade".

Wind and Cloud eventually met up and worked together to destroy Conquer. Using their combined powers, they killed Conquer fulfilling the prophecy.

10. Interesting Facts Or Not

  • There were rumors that Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok have been fighting for the rights to sing the theme and sub themes for the movie. Obviously, Cheng won in the end since The Storm Riders OST were published by BMG and the themes sang by Cheng.
  • There were also rumors that Kwok complaint that Director Lau favored Cheng (since they have worked together on the previous Young and Dangerous Series). As a result, Cheng's onscreen time was reduced tremendously.
  • A sequel was to be made soon after the release of this movie, however Kwok refused to be in the sequel. The reasons that were speculated were Kwok demanded an unreasonable pay rise and he disliked Cheng. Thus other actors such as Louis Koo and Takeshi Kaneshiro were considered as a replacement for Kwok to play Cloud. In the end, due to limited budget and Kwok not willing to participate, the sequel was never made until 10 years later when another production company (Universe Entertainment Ltd) bought the movie rights.
  • Since the sequel was unsuccessful, A Man Called Hero was made instead with the same production crew and similar cast.
