**1 Life and Career
***1.1 Early Life and Education
Ekin Cheng was born and raised in Hong Kong but his ancestors are from Guang Zhou Ying Ping. He is the second child in the Cheng family with an older brother and a younger sister. In his generation of the Cheng family, all the males names begin with "&italic(){Yee}" meaning "&italic(){start/begin}". His parents named him "&italic(){Kin}" hopefully their child will grow up healthy and strong. Cheng went by the name Noodle Cheng in his early years because "&italic(){Yee Kin}" sounds alot like "&italic(){Yee Mian}" and in Chinese it means noodles thus Noodle Cheng. Another name Cheng goes by was Dior as it sounds like "&italic(){Yee gor}" in Chinese and that was what his sister called him. It wasn't until 1995 he officially changed his name to Ekin Cheng.
***1.2 Career and Rise to Fame
****1.2.1 Discovery
Cheng began appearing in commercials at the age of 17. He was in a commercial for [[Maxim fast food chain]] with Vivian Chow. After graduating from Great Harmony high school, he and some high school friends participated in the annual TVB singing competition (same year in which William So won) singing a duet. Cheng was booted in the second round, but the judges took interest and suggested he enroll in the TVB acting class. He was mistakenly placed into the TVB martial arts class, however, with no background in martial arts, he quit soon after and transferred into the proper acting class of TVB. In 1988, before his graduation, he starred in [[Hi C Lemon Tea commercial]] and the general public began to take interest in him.
****1.2.2 Acting Career
Cheng graduated from the 13th TVB acting class and became the host for an afternoon children program "[[430 Space Shuttle]]". There he remained for 2 years, during that period he also making various MTVs with singers like Faye Wong. In 1990, he was finally cast as the lead with Nadia Chan in "[[Beside The Seaside Beside The Sea]]". From then on he proceeded to make various period and modern dramas for TVB. One of the most popular and well known TVB drama was "[[Instinct]]" with costars Nadia Chan, Adam Cheng and Kwok Chun Ang. Cheng returned to the TVB in 2005 after a 6 year absence, making a modern drama "[[Always Ready]]" with Charmaine Sheh and Bowie Lam. In 2007, Cheng made his first Mainland drama "[[Huo Yuan Jia]]" which was a huge success, breaking rating records in most cities in China.
Cheng made it to the big screen in 1992, with his first movie "[[Girls Without Tomorrow]]" pairing up with Lau Ka Ling and his movie career began from there. In 1995, he was offered the role of [[Chan Ho Nam]] in [[Young and Dangerous]]. Initially he refused as he detested triad genre movies but when reminded that he still have one last movie contract with Wong Jing, he took up the role. It was a huge success and Cheng became a superstar over night. [[Young and Dangerous 1]] raked in 20 million that year and the sequels [[Young and Dangerous 2]] and 3 came soon after. Cheng became an icon for Hong Kong comics and continued to star in "[[Feel 100%]]", "[[A Man Called Hero]]" and "[[The Storm Riders]]". [[The Storm riders]] made 40 mill, the best selling film in 1997. Cheng had an extremely successful career in the 90s, however, from the early turn of the century, due to various scandals, the effect of piracy on the internet and the diminished popularity of Hong Kong Movies, Cheng's popularity began to decline as well. He took the opportunity to give up his "idol" image and try more comedic roles i.e. "[[My wife is 18]]", "[[My Dream Girl]]", "[[Women from Mars]]", the most outstanding comedic role he took was "Robin" in "[[Protege De La Rose Noire]]". Currently, Cheng has reverted back to more heroic roles such as "&italic(){Whispering Wind}" in "[[The Storm Warriors]]" (aka The Storm Riders 2).

****1.2.3 Music Career
Cheng's music career began when his debut single "[[Home Alone]]", a canto pop song he sang with 鄭璥基 and Raymond Choi (蔡濟文), was released. The single was never formally released into the market apart from making a few appearances on TVB music shows. In 1991, during an audition, Cheng was offered a contract from BMG records. Even though [[Chan Kwong Wing]], one of the BMG representatives at the time, commented that Cheng needed more work on his techniques, he saw the potential in him. In 1992, Cheng released his first album "&italic(){[[Don't Cry]]}". The market reaction was only average for his debut album and similarly for his second album "&italic(){[[Sahara]]}" released in 1993. It wasn't until 1994, during the time in which [[Sandy Lam]] first became his manager, the release of "[[On Stage]]" became an instant hit, selling over 150 thousand copies. Cheng's next successful album "[[Got To Be Real]]" featured one of his most reknown single "&italic(){[[Only Love You In This Life Time]]}" and also a 10 minute recording of the 903 Commercial Radio Hong Kong Award Show in which he won gold for his performance. In 1995, Cheng released "[[The Best Show]]", a collection album with several new songs. This album was a big hit and won several IFPI awards. In the same year, Cheng held his first concert "[[My Best Show]]". Throughout the 90s, Cheng continued to make many best selling albums after that and also many sound tracks for his movies. Several of the most well known songs are from [[Young and Dangerous]]. "&italic(){[[Friendship Years]]}" and "&italic(){[[Willing To Replace You]]}" are the most reputable. On 20th February 1998, Cheng held his second concert "&italic(){[[22098 Ekin In Concert Tour>22098 Ekin In Concert]]}" in the Hong Kong Coliseum, a reputable concert hall for Hong Kong A-list performers. The show was a huge success, and Cheng continued his concert tour through out Asia, Australia and the US.
Cheng had a very successful music career with BMG Records but a grave mistake was made when he signed with EEG records. Li Jun and Roman Tam (his singing teacher) persuaded him to join the company, however, soon after Cheng has signed with EEG, Li Jun left. Cheng only released one album during the 3 year period he was in EEG. There were rumours that the reason why Cheng was "frozen" was because he was unwilling to give up his managerial contract with [[Sandy Lam]].
In 2003, Cheng returned to BMG Records however, he only released a collection album "[[Discover]]" with only 4 new singles. As this was only a one year contract, a year later, Cheng left and joined BMA, a smaller music company. Interestingly, he has not released an album with them. In 2006, Cheng wrote his first book "[[Looking into Ekin's eyes]]" which was published by BMA.
Currently, Cheng is no longer a commodity of BMA, instead he is the CEO of his own company Lamb Production Ltd. In September 2009, a press conference was held to announce Cheng's return to the music industry by signing with Sony Music Entertainment Hong Kong (previous known as Sony BMG). Returning to his "parent" company for the third time, Cheng held his comeback concert tour "[[Friends For Life Concert 2009]]" at the Hong Kong Coliseum on 18th and 19th December 2009. The concert was a sell out and due to its success, part 2 of the concert will be held in June 2010.

****1.3.2 Maggie Siu (邵美琪)
[[Maggie Sui Mei Kei>>http://www.scmedia.com.hk/scm_photos/XPWEEKLY/200901/75885/415570.jpg]] (born 27/02/1965) is a Hong Kong TVB actress from the 4th TVB acting class. Cheng and Sui began dating in 1992 and their relationship was known as 姐弟戀 (Older sister-Younger brother Love). When they were first dating, Cheng’s career has just begun but Maggie was already a 花旦 (well known actress) thus many people did not think their relationship will last. In 1994-1995, Maggie was admitted to the hospital due to a liver disease. When Cheng was asked about her illness in a magazine interview, he made a statement that he will look after her for the rest of his life. Because of this, Cheng was known as 好男人 (a good man) and a favourable idol image was created. However, in 1999, Sui and Cheng broke up ending their 7 years relationship. There have been rumours that Cheng has been helping Sui financially even after the breakup. This includes Cheng giving several of his estates (which were under both their names) entirely to her and also giving her monthly allowances.
****1.3.3 Gigi Leung (梁詠琪)

Before Cheng and Leung began dating, they have already made several movies and radio drams together. Some of these movies were “[[Feel 100%]]”, “[[Feel 100% Once More]]” and “[[We’re No Bad Guys]]”. Before Cheng ended his relationship with Sui, Leung had hinted on a HK radio show that she had a “crush” on a HK celebrity and it was rumoured that Cheng was the person she had a crush on. In 1999, Cheng and Leung performed in the “&italic(){[[Mid Summer Song]]}” musical. It was in this show that Cheng and Leung's relationship “sparked”. On October 4th 1999, the day of Cheng’s birthday, their relationship came to light when the entire HK media was notified by an anonymous tipper that Leung had stayed over Cheng’s apartment alone. This was a shocked to the HK entertainment industry and this birthday scandal was dubbed as 奪面雙琪 (“&italic(){The 2 Kei’s fighting for Noodles}”). The press and many fans of the three parties slighted Cheng over this, and both Cheng and Leung’s popularity and career hit rock bottom as a result. Cheng was known as 負心汉 (“&italic(){Unheartly Man}”) and Leung was known as 狐狸精(“&italic(){Slutty Fox}”). It was later rumoured that Leung was the anonymous tipper the reason is she was desperate to let the media know Cheng has ended his relationship with Sui and is now dating her. In January 2006, Leung released a [[letter>>http://pic.big5.enorth.com.cn/0/01/69/72/1697267_912168.jpg]] to the media announcing that she and Cheng have broken up, ending their 7 years relationship. There were many speculations to the reason of their breakup, one being they did not spent enough time together, others were Leung intruding into Cheng’s career and finance matters much to the despite of Cheng.

For the past 2 years, Cheng has only responded once since their breakup, since then, he has never mentioned a word about Leung. Due to this, he has gained much respect from the media. However, on the other side, Leung has the tendency to bring up her ex during every album and movie promotions. Many of her recent songs were about her feelings after the breakup. In a recent radio interview on Sandra Ng's Show 嘩嘩嘩打到o黎(01/01/2009)&sup(){Ref 4}, Leung mentioned how she could not get over Cheng’s ties with Sui when they were together. It wasn’t until they have broken up in 2006 that she was relieved of the matter.

Initially Cheng with a few friends played badminton together as a group, which eventually lead to Cheng and Mung visiting the courts alone. In September 2006, Cheng and Mung’s relationship became official.
In April 2007, Mung revealed that she first met Cheng in 1997 when she was just an employee for an advertising company but he was already a famous celebrity. Mung said even back then, Cheng was a very nice person unlike other super stars. In 1997, Mung and Cheng were both shooting in the same place for different commercials but some improper photos of her were taken. Surprisingly, none of the photos were published and a few years later she discovered that it was Cheng that insisted the photos should be destroyed.
